Fall 2010 Trend Alert: Full Eyebrows

Christian Siriano F/W 2010
Just as Heidi Klum infamously quotes in every episode of Project Runway, “in fashion, one day you’re in and the next you are out!”
Last season’s extremely popular bleached eyebrow trend (here) is already (quickly) being replaced with stronger, fuller brows. During this past fashion week for Fall 2010′s collections, bleached eyebrows were almost obsolete! Designers such as Narciso Rodriguez, Christian Siriano, Yigal Arouzel and Thakoon all opted for their model’s eyebrows to be extremely full, and in some cases, exaggeratedly hairy.

At the Trias show, makeup artists drew in the eyebrows very thick, and dramatically sketched wispy hairs coming off the top of each brow. Even blonde models were given darker brows which practically leap off their face!
.
In one of MAC’s recent ads for their Mineralize Foundation, the blonde model is sporting some heavily structured brows. Just another example of what we can start to expect over the next few months.
.

Makeup artist, Dick Page, created the look for Narciso Rodriguez’s Fall 2010 runway show. The eyebrow color was custom blended with black eyeliner and a white cream to create the deep grey tone above. These brows make a statement, and are focal point of the whole look.
Trend Alert: Unibrows are Sexy!
Disclaimer: This was an April Fools Day post, but since April Fools is over, I felt it necessary to warn you before you start reading
Hairy is In!
The time has finally come to put down your tweezers and embrace the unibrow you have fought so hardly against for your whole life. The fashion world is giving us hint after hint that eyebrows should no longer be separated, by joined together as one! This is great news! Tweezing is so tedious.

Claudia Schiffer was recently photographed wearing a furry little unibrow in last month’s issue of German Vogue shot by Karl Lagerfeld. Sexy.
.

Topshop’s runway

Galliano’s Fall 2010 runway was a bold display of flawless unibrows, penciled in to perfection. Very neanderthal chic.
.

Get The Look:
Chances are you are not currently sporting a unibrow (and if you are, congrats, you little trendsetter), so follow these easy steps to fake it until you make it!
1. Choose an eyebrow pencil the same color as your eyebrows, go a little darker for extra drama.
2. Begin where your eyebrows starts and start filling in the gap!
3. Flick your pencil upward as you draw to start mimicking the hairs that should be there.
4. The hairs near your right eyebrow should be drawn in facing the right. Hairs near your left brow should be flicked toward the left. Hairs in the center should face straight up.
Our whole goal is for it to look like your actual eyebrow. It needs to look natural because seriously…how dumb would you look if your “unibrow” was an obvious fake?

Spring Trend Alert: CORAL
Hot Color For Spring 2010:
CORAL
Seen all over the Spring/Summer 2010 runways, coral is definitely the “it” color for next season! The gorgeous peachy-pink has been popping up everywhere, from new makeup collections (see Bobbi Brown’s Cabana Coral Collection above), to the faces of celebrities. Check out what all the hype is about, and how you can make coral your go-to color for Spring!

At her Spring 2010 show, Diane Von Furstenberg’s models (left) wore coral eyeshadow on their lids, that extended out to their upper cheekbones. At Anna Sui’s Spring show, makeup artist Pat Mcgrath used Covergirl’s Simply Ageless Blush in Plush Peach to achieve the coral cheeks seen (on right).

Nail polish is an awesome way to subtly incorporate the coral craze into your life! Essie’s, The Art of Spring Collection 2010, has a gorgeous coral shade, and it looks amazing with a tan (fake, of course
).

How To Make Coral Work For You!!
Coral is a universally flattering color for any skintone, you just have find the right shade! Below is a small guide to lead you in the direction of finding the right coral for your skin.
Light
If you have lighter skin, pale toned, cooler corals will great on you! Try Vincent Longo’s Diamond Lipgloss in Coral Cabana, or YSL’s Pure Coral Lipgloss.
.

.
.
Medium
Medium and olive toned skin look amazing in coral!! Try and aim for more warmer, apricot toned corals to brighten you up and make you look sun-kissed and healthy. Try MAC’s Mineralize Blush in Gleeful applied to the apples of your cheeks. Or YSL’s Golden Coral Lipgloss.

Darker skintones are able to pull off brighter shades of coral! Although they might be intimidatingly bright in the pot, they will look perfect once properly applied. Try NARS Creme Blush in Cactus flower and Covergirl’s Outlast lip color in Coral.

Trend Alert: Double Winged Eyeliner
Two is Better than One… This Season
Just when you’ve finally mastered winged liner, the fashion world throws a curve-ball your way! Double eyeliner is the new “in” thing, and celebrities are picking up on the trend… quickly.

In two of Christian Dior’s recent runway shows, double liner has been applied.

Kim Kardashian has worn the double liner twice in recent months! Her makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, glammed her up for her birthday celebration in Vegas (where more is more
) and yesterday for her Sephora appearance to promote her new fragrance.

Marc Jacob’s most recent runway show in New York displayed an extreme version of the trend.
Mischa Barton attended Gucci Icon- Temporary Flash Sneaker store launch late last year. She was sporting greyish blue liner with two wings extended out pretty far past her eyes.

Red Carpet Trend: Colorful Eyeshadow!
A Look into the Colorful Makeup on the 52nd Annual Grammy’s Red Carpet
Unlike the Golden Globes and SAG Awards, the Grammys are an place where celebrities get a little more creative with their makeup! Bright colors were all over the red carpet yesterday, from eyes and lips, to Gaga’s yellow hair! It’s time to take a (short) trip down memory lane, into the best and worst colorful looks of the night.

Spanish singer-songwriter, Shaila Durcal, wore a vivid purple (looks like MUFE #92 eyeshadow?) smokey eye at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards last night. She looks fabulous, and her makeup is gorgeous.

Katy Perry wore yellow and purple eyeshadow, a bright pink lip and a golden bindi on the red carpet. I’m all for bindis, but I think she should have kept her makeup more neutral for this look to work. The bright makeup looks a little bit garish with her nude dress.

Melody Thorton from The Pussycat Dolls kept her look pretty natural, with just a wash of mauve eyeshadow on her upper and lower lid, and glossy pink lips.

Purple was definitely the color of the night! Singer, Kaya Jones, matched her eyes to her dress, which to be honest, is a huge pet peeve of mine. This look would be pretty if there were a little bit less purple. The bright color travels all the way around her eye making them look more bruised than glamorous.
Hillary Scott did this colorful trend justice last night! With just a hint of teal shimmer on the inner corner of her eyes, her look is sexy and fun. She keeps her blush and lips neutral, letting her eyes take all the focus. A+
Just because it’s a trend, it doesn’t mean that everyone automatically executes it flawlessly, lol. “Tick-Tok” singer, Ke$ha, showed up with this blue, bronze and yellow glittery mess all over her eyes. Sorry girl, but this look is not working for you.
Chanel To Sell Temporary Tattoos!
Les Trompe L’Oeil de CHANEL
Remember when I told you that body art was the new “it-thing” in the fashion world (here)? Well, Chanel has now made it possible for the mainstream public take part in the trend!
At their Spring/Summer 2010 runway show in Paris last year, we caught a glimpse of several fake tattoos gracing the legs, calves and chests of Chanel’s models. Everyone has been dying to know if the temporary ink will be released to retail, and the confirmation has finally been given!
Les Trompe L’Oeil de CHANEL Temporary Skin Art will be a collection of 55 temporary tattoos, retailing at $75. The price is surprisingly dirt-cheap for Chanel, so I foresee tons of women picking these up in an effort to display the coveted Double C’s somewhere on their body! lol.
The collection will be released mid-February.
I’m dying to see if this trend sparks and blows up, with other companies following suit! How funny would it be if everyone started changing up their tattoos on a regular basis?
I actually like how pretty and girly the Chanel tattoos look, but I don’t think I’ll be purchasing them.
Will you be wearing Chanel tattoos this Spring??
Trend Alert: Tribal Designs!
Tribal is Taking Over!!.
It started during New York Fashion week, when Rodarte’s models dawned tribal style body paint on their arms as they walked the runway. Each model’s designs were unique and it looked great with the slicked hair and green lights. Last month in Italian Vogue, photographer David Sim’s published an amazing editorial spread focused on designer clothing and tribal art. Inspired by both looks, I actually did a photoshoot of my own centered around this tribal art. It’s actually much harder to do than it looks! The lines needed to be clean and I only had several hours to do two models. It was really fun though!
Most recently, Shakira put out a new video where she and her dancers are sportting the tribal trend! They only wear the art on one arm but this is a great example to show how much fashion influences all aspects of the media. It started on the runway, traveled to editorial and ended up in the mainstream music scene. So cool!

Autumn/Winter Trend: Navy Nails!

Navy Blue Nails are IN
I am normally not one to follow, or even care about nail trends. Up until this past month, I did not even wear nail polish! I felt like it chipped easily, and was too difficult to apply. However, lately, I find myself looking more and more at nails.
Navy nail polish has popping on on celebrities and runways, and is already a huge trend for fall/winter.

Navy nails are surprisingly chic! They aren’t as dark as black, but still give you that deep color that seems to always be popular for fall. I recently decided to pick up a navy blue polish to try it out and see what the big deal is. I actually really like it! It compliments most skin tones and I have already gotten several compliments!.
Try the ever-so-popular OPI’s Russian Navy, or Chanel’s Satin Blue.

Or, if you are on a budget but still want to try out this trend, do what I did and hit the drugstore. I bought Sally Hansen Salon “Navy Baby.”
Great, all I need is for another beauty obsession that I waste money on
Celebrity Trend Alert: Minx Nails
Fashionable Fingertips with Minx Nails

Fashion is not just about your clothes anymore! Minx nails are the latest rage in Hollywood, and the trend is quickly picking up everywhere else. Celebrities like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rhianna are big fans, and the manicures were seen on the Paris Fashion Week runways, as well as popular magazines such as Vogue, Allure, Elle and In Style.
So, What Exactly IS It?
Minx nails are a heated, flexible film that fit on top your nails, like a sticker. Your Minx manicurist will trim them up and seal them onto your nail. They are waterproof, chip-proof and chemical free.
How Long Do They Last?
They are designed to last about 1-2 weeks. Since they are a flexible polymer, they do not chip. However, I have heard that the tips start to lift after about 5 days.
How Much Do Minx Nails Cost?
The price of Minx nails range from $30-$55, depending on the salon you go to. All of the salons I called (in Los Angeles) said they charge $55.
Where Can I Get Minx Nails?
Check out the Minx Salon Locator on their website to find a salon near you! Minx Salon Locator
..

So at $55 a pop, it may not be the most budget friendly manicure you can get, especially if it only lasts under two weeks. However, the designs are so cute and the application process is easy, and chemical free! I love the metallic silver and gold foils!! Definitely a sure fire way to get heads turning.
Check out a few of the cute designs! The lace would be prefect for brides!
