As a huge fan on bronzer, luminous skin and anything Tom Ford, it’s as if this Summer 2013 collection was made for me. Tom Ford Beauty’s limited edition, nine-piece collection was released on May 1, 2013 and is the perfect (and expensive) way to give yourself that summer glow.

The collection consists of:

Cream Color for Eyes ($40)

Escapade- Pearlized Peach

Pink Haze- Pink with peach tones and gold pearl

Illuminating Cheek Color ($58)

Blush Guilt- Natural, radient glow

Bronzed Amber- Natural, radient glow

I’m so excited that Embryolisse is on Hautelook today! It’s one of my favorite skincare lines, and a huge staple in many artist’s kits. The Lait Creme Concentrate (24 hour miracle creme) is legendary and I have been loving the Hydra Mat Emulsion lately for oily skin.

The Makeup Show LA 2013 Recap

In it’s 5th year, The Makeup Show LA proved to be bigger and better than ever. Over 4,500 attendees walked through the doors, along with 75 brands and 30 speakers. While I should have been lying on my death bed this past weekend, I was actually walking around The Makeup Show, shopping and listening to the amazing lineup of keynotes they had on schedule this year.

The first keynote I watched was Sam Fine. It was such an amazing experience to watch the master work! Sam’s great energy and lightheartedness made his keynote one of my favorites of the weekend. He worked on his model’s skin for the entire hour of his demo, and I was captivated the whole time.

Next, Johnny Lavoy and Billy B talked about the importance of having a makeup family. They were joined onstage by surprise guest Michelle Visage. The entire keynote was funny, down to earth and extremely informative. Billy B told stories and the others made fun of him. I always love listening to what he has to say.

Beautylish put on a great keynote about the importance of social media, and they outlined ways for us to incorporate the tools ourselves. Michael Devellis and Crystal Wright schooled the audience on the industry and gave everyone amazing career advice, as usual.

On Sunday, I did most of my shopping. I had to stop by NARS’ booth since I’m obsessed. I also picked up some Bdellium Tools brushes, a Senna contour kit, Alcone sponges, lashes, and some MUFE refills. I kept it under control this year. My kit is heavy enough.

The keynote speakers on Sunday were fantastic. Makeup artist, Lois Burwell (Braveheart, Princess Bride, Saving Private Ryan) gave the lowdown on working in film. Her talk was so humble and inspiring. I am not a film makeup artist so I was fascinated by her knowledge and information.

Lastly, my favorite keynote of the weekend was Mathu Anderson’s. It was a little bit off the wall, but the man is a genius. He demoed a drag look on his model which is what I was hoping he’d do. It didn’t disappoint! He showed us his famous cut crease and fade brow techniques.

As always, it was a fast paced, fun filled weekend. Can’t wait for next year!

Keynote Speakers

The keynote speakers at this year’s show are must-see’s! From Billy B to Sam Fine, the education this year is the number one reason to check out the Makeup Show LA. On Satuday, Sam Fine will be speaking about a “Career in Makeup.” Billy B and Johnny Lavoy with do their talk on the importance of the makeup community and their role in each of our careers. Sunday, Uzo, International Lead Artist for NARS, will be speaking about working for brands, and how to cultivate relationships with them. Lois Burwell is giving her talk “Integrity in Artistry” and will cover topics such a set etiquette and how to maintain an overall professional look. Aside from the Keynotes, there are tons of other amazing speakers on the other stages.

Pro Resources

The pro resources at The Makeup Show are always an excellent tool to utilize. This year, Crystal Wright and Michael DeVellis will be hosting a portfolio review following their keynote talk Saturday evening. Get your portfolio, business cards and comp cards critiqued by industry agents and artists. In addition, the Hair and Makeup Artist’s Network along with Kim Greene will be hosting a “mentor’s corner” all weekend. Stop by booth 3019 to check it out and take part.

Shopping

As always, the fantastic shopping is usually the highlight of the show. With most brands offering their top pro discounts, it’s the perfect time to stock up on everything you need in one place. The new vendors worth checking out this year are Ellis Faas, NARS, Ofra Cosmetics and Sam Fine for Fashion Fair. Makeup Forever will be debuting their new foundation, Pro Finish. Also, be sure to stop by the Inglot booth and offer your condolences to the passing of their founder, Mr. Wojchiech Inglot.

Wojciech Inglot, Founder of Inglot, Passes Away

It’s a sad, sad day in the beauty world. Wojciech Inglot, polish chemist and founder of cosmetic brand Inglot, passed away today. At only 57 years old, his death comes as a shock to everyone that knew him. He was rushed to the hospital earlier today when he was suffering from internal hemorrhaging, the doctors were unable to save him.

RIP Wojchiech Inglot, you will be missed.

Natural Beauty Secret: Coconut Oil

I cannot live without coconut oil. Aside from Apple Cider Vinegar, it is my go to miracle product for everything from dry skin to brittle hair.

I have recently been eliminating products from my personal beauty routine that contain unnecessary chemicals. Unfortunately this has not left me with much to work with, especially in terms of lotions and shampoo/conditioners. Luckily, I had a large bottle of coconut oil in my kitchen which has been my lifesaver!

There are so many uses for coconut oil, it would be impossible to cover them all. Here are the top ways to incorporate this amazing product in your beauty routine:

Brittle Hair

Before bed, apply a quarter size scoop of coconut oil in damp hair and brush it through. Roll your hair into a bun and put on a shower cap, or protect your pillow with an old towel. In the morning, shampoo as normal. Coconut oil helps aid in preventing protein loss and nourishes dry, damaged hair like a charm.

Dry Skin

You can apply coconut oil just as you would any other lotion. It works best on slightly damp skin, so applying after your shower is ideal. Massage it into your skin day or night. Many also use it to treat psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis.

I recently got home from a trip to Peru, where the climate was extremely humid. Aside from horrible hair days, the humidity was awesome for my skin, I didn’t put lotion on once! Since I’ve returned, my skin has been twice as dry as it normally is..so dry that it’s actually flaking. It’s gross. Every morning when I get out of the shower, when my skin is still wet, I apply coconut oil on my entire body. It’s not only extremely moisturizing but it leaves skin with a really nice glow that lasts for hours. It has completely healed my dry skin.

Moisturizer

Coconut oil has anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties, and works great as a night-time moisturizer. I combine it with several other oils and let it soak in as I sleep. If you’re prone to acne, test a little bit on a small part of your face before you go all out and slather yourself down. It does not make me break out at all, in fact I feel like it helps clear up my skin. However, it’s always best to test it on yourself since everyone is different.

Eat It!

Coconut oil has even more benefits when you ingest it! Use it when you cook, or even just eat a tablespoon of it to capitalize on the benefits. You will also start to notice it working from the inside out in terms of shinier hair and smooth skin!

It is an oil so naturally it contains fat, but it’s packed with good fats! Dr. Oz recently ran a two episode special on his show, called Coconut Oil Superpowers. He listed the benefits as cholesterol reducing, thyroid balancing, blood sugar controlling, and immune enhancing. It also helps with digestion, prevents heart disease and high blood pressure, supports kidney and gall bladder functions and even aids in weight loss.

Alzheimer’s

Coconut Oil has recently been in the spotlight for it’s miraculous progress in reversing Alzheimer’s. Read about that on the Alliance for Natural Health’s website here

Victoria’s Secret models swear by it

Miranda Kerr has been a long time advocate for coconut oil. She’s been taking it since she was 14 years old and has been quoted to say, “I will not go a day without coconut oil. I personally take four tablespoons per day, either on my salads, in my cooking or in my cups of green tea.”

Candice Swanepoel tweeted a photo of coconut oil with the caption “My no1 beauty secret :)”

Doutzen Kroes told Modelina, “I put coconut oil in my hair, it keeps it soft and shiny. Put a bit in before you go to sleep at night and wash it out in the morning.”

Giselle Bundchen has her own line of organic skin care whose main ingredient is Coconut oil. She has also said, “use coconut oil on your body at night. it will help sooth and hydrate the skin if you’ve stayed in the sun too long”

What should I look for in my coconut oil?

When purchasing Coconut Oil it’s important to buy Cold Pressed, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. If you have the choice always pick the organic, GMO (Genetically Modified) free kind to ensure your coconut oil is in it’s purest form. You can buy coconut oil at any health food store (Whole Foods, Sprouts, Mother’s etc) or Amazon has great prices. Considering how much you receive in a tub, it’s super economical!

If my coconut oil turns to liquid, is it still good?

Coconut oil does not need to be refrigerated. However, it warm temperatures it will melt and turn to liquid. It’s still perfectly good and will go back to solid form when the weather cools down.

Key Makeup Artist: Pat McGrath

The 60′s influenced look at Anna Sui was created by Pat McGrath who gathered inspiration from women like Chantal Goya, Brigitte Bardot and Anna Karina. Models were given a graphic, black cat eye that extended out to the end of their eyebrow. Their waterlines were painted white and tons of mascara was added to the bottom lashes to give it the piece-y, separated look.

Sam Fine for Fashion Fair Ad Revealed

After much anticipation, the first ad for Sam Fine’s collection for Fashion Fair has finally been revealed. The advertisement, shot by Mike Ruiz, features the gorgeous Fatima Siad wearing the collection’s Tunisian Nights Eye Color Quad, Pink Parfait Lip Color, and Canary Diamond Lipgloss.

Fine began releasing behind the scenes teasers on his Facebook and Twitter earlier last week:
