Review: L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara
L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara:
The Best of the Best
I am always on the lookout for the latest and greatest mascara, but I keep running back to good ol’ L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara. It’s like one of those relationships where you have been together so long and end up breaking up to “see what else is out there.” Inevitably, 2 weeks later you come running back to the one you know has been right for you since the start. This is how it is with me and Voluminous haha. It has everything I need in a mascara, and it does the job just right.
I’m not a huge fan of spending tons of cash on a mascara. I use it everyday, and I’ve got a lot of lashes, so shelling out $25 every month for a new tube is ridiculous. At about $7.50 a pop in almost any drugstore, L’Oreal Voluminous had me at “hello.” Not only is it cheap (and I love cheap), it works! It doesn’t clump and keeps my lashes soft. I hate when a mascara gives you spider lashes that are so stiff you’re afraid they’ll break off any second..
L’Oreal Voluminous gives amazing thickness, separation and length in only 2 coats. Talk about DRAMA. I have no complaints, and it is my go-to mascara on most photoshoots. No smudging, no flaking, no problem.
Their new shade is called Carbon Black and it is ah-ma-zing. They say that it’s a “shade blacker than black.” I also like the version with the curved brush A LOT. It gives excellent curl to your lashes, but my only gripe is the curved brush doesn’t come in the Carbon Black shade (that I’ve seen). So, I have to sacrifice

Those before and after pics are amazing!! I JUST bought Voluminous the other day (curved brush). At first it was a mess. Then, once I figured hoe to use the curve to my advantage and take my time applying…WOW…my lashes looked AMAZING!! Are there any other mascaras you’d suggest??

Hi Tanny!
I’m so glad you like the Voluminous! It’s definitely my personal go-to mascara and I haven’t found any that I like more. Sometimes I use CoverGirl Volume Exact mascara on my models and every time I use it, I forget how much I actually love it. I also just bought CG LashBlast, but haven’t tried it yet. I’ll be doing a review as soon as I do!
On the more expensive end, I do really like Lancome’s mascaras a lot, but cannot justify spending that much money when I can find great alternatives at the drugstore!
Thanks for reading!

Which Lancome mascaras would you recommend? I have short, med. thick lashes that are quite light at the tips. When you used the Voluminous as in the above photo, did you let it dry between coats? Any other application tips?
Thanks.

P.S. Do you use the curved or straight wand?

I don’t really have any other experience with Lancome mascaras outside of the Voluminous. Sorry!
I use both the straight wand and curved, sometimes I forget there’s a difference when I go to buy them, but I prefer the curved wand more!! I really feel like it works to curl the lashes upward.
To apply, I start at the base of the lash and wiggle it back and forth all the way up to the tips. I don’t really let it dry before applying the next coat, I just keep coating more of the product on because I feel like I can manipulate it more when it’s still wet. I apply about 5 coats on myself because I know that my lashes can handle it without looking clumpy, but on my models I usually do about 3 coats.
Hope this helps a bit!
