Lady Gaga at the Grammys
The Transformation of Gaga at the Grammys
Makeup Artist genius, Billy B, was the mastermind behind Lady Gaga’s four different looks last night at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. She was killing it all night long! Check out her transformation as the night went on..
Look One: Red Carpet

Gaga’s red carpet look was a dark greenish gold smokey eye. Her bold, flawlessly filled in eyebrows shaped her face and her skin looked amazing. Gaga’s lipstick is Viva Glam Gaga, from her new MAC Campaign with Cyndi Lauper, “From Our Lips.”
.
Look Two: Performance

Gaga opened the Grammy’s by singing a duet with Elton John! She wore two upside-down pink rhinestone triangles around her eyes, and the same pink lipstick as her red carpet look. It doesn’t look like rinestones were attached to her skin individually, but rather the entire shape was fixated around her eyes. During the performance, she disappears and re-appears with covered in soot, sans triangles.
.
Look Three: Audience
Lady Gaga’s 3rd look is very similar to the one she wore while performing. The pink triangles are back around her eyes, but this time without eyebrows or rhinestones! These triangles definitely look painted on. Her eyes are rimmed with jet black liner and her lips are a darker, hot pink.
.
Look Four: Press Room
Gaga’s final look of the night was a simple, yet dramatic, black smokey eye and nude lip.
Red Carpet Trend: Colorful Eyeshadow!
A Look into the Colorful Makeup on the 52nd Annual Grammy’s Red Carpet
Unlike the Golden Globes and SAG Awards, the Grammys are an place where celebrities get a little more creative with their makeup! Bright colors were all over the red carpet yesterday, from eyes and lips, to Gaga’s yellow hair! It’s time to take a (short) trip down memory lane, into the best and worst colorful looks of the night.

Spanish singer-songwriter, Shaila Durcal, wore a vivid purple (looks like MUFE #92 eyeshadow?) smokey eye at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards last night. She looks fabulous, and her makeup is gorgeous.

Katy Perry wore yellow and purple eyeshadow, a bright pink lip and a golden bindi on the red carpet. I’m all for bindis, but I think she should have kept her makeup more neutral for this look to work. The bright makeup looks a little bit garish with her nude dress.

Melody Thorton from The Pussycat Dolls kept her look pretty natural, with just a wash of mauve eyeshadow on her upper and lower lid, and glossy pink lips.

Purple was definitely the color of the night! Singer, Kaya Jones, matched her eyes to her dress, which to be honest, is a huge pet peeve of mine. This look would be pretty if there were a little bit less purple. The bright color travels all the way around her eye making them look more bruised than glamorous.
Hillary Scott did this colorful trend justice last night! With just a hint of teal shimmer on the inner corner of her eyes, her look is sexy and fun. She keeps her blush and lips neutral, letting her eyes take all the focus. A+
Just because it’s a trend, it doesn’t mean that everyone automatically executes it flawlessly, lol. “Tick-Tok” singer, Ke$ha, showed up with this blue, bronze and yellow glittery mess all over her eyes. Sorry girl, but this look is not working for you.
Golden Globes Beauty Round-up
A Look Into the Makeup At the Globes
Courtney Cox looked amazing last night at the Golden Globes! Her makeup artist, Genevieve, gave the Cougar Town actress a grey and black smoky eye paired with nude lips. She used Lancome’s Color Design Lip Color in “Pale Lip” to create Courtney’s neutral pout. Can you believe she’s 45??
Kate Hudson never needs much makeup in order to look gorgeous! For this look, her makeup artist, Leslie Lopez, kept the eyes and lips very clean which looked amazing against her white Marchesa gown. Her waterline is rimmed with black pencil and her frosty peach lips are Chanel’s Aqualumiere Sheer Lipcolor in Malta.
Olivia Wilde wore one of the smokiest eyes of the night but it totally worked with her metallic Calvin Klein dress. Her eyeshadow is an earthy sand color, brought out into a sharp cat eye. Her eyes are rimmed all the way around with black pencil and the look is topped of with a hot set of false lashes.
Didn’t Jennifer Aniston look fabulous last night!? I love her bronzed skin, and peach lips; the whole look compliments her so well! She is wearing a little bit more of a smokey eye than she usually does, and she pulls it off perfectly!
When Christina Aguilera hits the red carpet, you never know what to expect! She definitely is not shy when it comes to makeup, but her look last night was surprisingly subdued. Her makeup artist for the night was Kristofer Buckle for NARS. Her eyes were a shimmery walnut brown, smokey but still soft. Her mauve lips are lined with NARS’ Fantasia lipliner, filled in with Niagara lipstick and topped off with Easy Lover lipgloss.
Mo’Nique’s makeup was so clean and glowy last night, she definitely looked like a Golden Globe winner! Her makeup artist, Sam Fine, kept the whole look very neutral but still beautiful and fresh. She was given long wispy false lashes (#747L from Image Exclusives in LA) and a blush colored, nude lip.
Kate Winslet always looks phenomenal at these award shows! Her makeup artist Jillian Dempsey, created a super clean, flawless look for the actress. She carefully contoured Kate’s cheekbones, and used a navy eyeliner on her eyes. Kate’s flushed cheeks are Avon’s Blushing Nude and her lips are Lancome’s L’Absolu Rouge in Rich Cashmere.
Scott Barnes is the makeup artist that put Jennifer Lopez’ bronzed, glowy skin on the map, so it’s no suprise that he was responsible for Penelope Cruz’ beautiful golden glow last night! He used a burgundy eyeshadow, jet black liner and mascara, a nude lip, and of course loads of bronzer! Her body was coated in Barnes’ own product, Body Bling.
Taylor Swift’s Dramatic Makeover For New York Times
Taylor Goes High Fashion!
What is the first thing you think of when you see metallic blue eyeshadow and glossy red lips??
HOOKER! lol!
HOWEVER! That is not what came to my mind when first viewing these new pictures of Taylor Swift. Check out how amazing she looks! Put on a $12,700 Chanel dress or a Prada Swarovsli crystal top, and you can wear whatever color eyeshadow you damn well please!
As always, I am reading a lot of negative responses toward this shoot, but come on people! It’s fashion. She’s going to wipe off the makeup and get back into her tank top soon enough. It’s fun to switch it up a bit, and she looks great!
Get The Look:
If you want to copy Taylor’s look, try toning it down a bit by wearing the red lips by themselves or vice versa with blue eyeshadow; unless of course you plan on draping yourself in couture clothing!
-To get the glossy, ultra rich red lips, try Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect In Red Stockings, or Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar is NSFW!
-For the eyeshadow, try not to bring it up past the crease. Less is more with such bright colors! Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics pigments in Heroic or Cavu Blue are gorgeous!
Not brave enough to rock the metallic blue? Go for a more wearable shade, like a navy, or try lining your upper lid with a metallic blue eye pencil (Urban Decay’s 24/7 Pencil in Electric is perfect!). You’ll still get that pop of color without being too over the top.

A Look Back at 2009′s Red Carpet
Best Red Carpet Looks From the Past Year
Can you believe 2009 is almost over?! Well, it already is over for a lot of you… I sill have and one more hour left :) Some of the looks on the red carpet have been gorgeous and I would love to recall them one more time before next year’s award season starts! Take a look at my favorite looks from 2009.
Angelina Jolie looked radiant at this years Academy Awards. I am in love with the “whole package,” from the hair, to the earrings, to the makeup. I know the makeup looks pretty simple, but it compliments her natural beauty and her skin looks amazing! I think her makeup artist created the perfect look for her here.
.
Another natural look, but let me tell you, natural is the HARDEST look to create! Look how GORGEOUS Megan Fox looked at the Golden Globes! Glowy, perfect skin and flawless eyebrows, I really couldn’t ask for anything more
.
Kim Kardashian took a makeup risk at the Golden Globes this past year, but I think it totally worked for her! She moved away from her usual sultry, smokey eye, and went for a frosty blue/white makeup look with extreme false eyelashes. It complimented her long white gown beautifully.
.
A lot of people argue that younger girls should stay away from red lipstick because it ages them, but I disagree! Taylor Swift looked so pretty at the MTV Video Music Awards this year and her red lipstick is totally working for her! Her neutral colored dress makes that pucker pop. Love it.
.
I couldn’t get over Mila Kunis’ makeup from the 2009 Emmys. Her mauve/brown eyeshadow makes her eyes POP and looks great with her skin tone. I always think she looks great, but I really did love this look!
Jennifer Hudson looked like a rock star at this years Grammy Awards. Her silver and black smokey eye was so glamorous but still fun. You can get Jennifer’s look by following my step by step guide here.

Holiday Makeup Idea!

I LOVE Jennifer Hudson’s makeup in this picture! I think it was for the Grammy’s, but the silvery smokey eye would be perfect to add a little bit of pizazz to your holiday makeup. Whether you are going to a company party, Christmas Eve dinner, or ringing in the New Year with friends, this sexy look will set you above the rest!
What You Need:
Silver Eyeshadow or Pigment
Matte Black Eyeshadow
Matte Chocolate Brown Eyeshadow
Black Eyeliner Pencil
False Eyelashes (Medium Length)
Shimmery Mauve Lipgloss
.
How To Get The Look:
1. Start out with your foundation or tinted moisturizer. Add a drop or two of luminizing lotion to add a healthy glow to your skin. Smashbox’s Artificial Light and MAC’s Strobe Cream are great for this technique.
2. Take your silver eyeshadow and begin to apply it to the inner half of your eye. Look at the diagram below, the red dotted line shows where you should carry the silver to. I like to use a firm flat brush to “pack” the color on. It will show up more vibrant this way. Do not go past your crease with the eyeshadow.
3. Add a little touch of the silver to the inner corner of your eyes (near the tear ducts!) It brightens your eyes and looks amazing.
4. Now, take a matte black eyeshadow and apply to the outer half of your eye, picking up where the silver leaves off. Extend the shadow out a little past your eye and blend well into the silver with a clean blending brush.
5. Once your silver and black shadows have been blended, take a matte chocolate brown eyeshadow on a clean brush and lightly contour your crease. Use the windshield wiper motion, back and forth. On the diagram, the yellow line shows where to apply the brown. Up until this point, you shouldn’t have gone past your natural crease with the other shadows, so now is the time to give it a little definition and to make your eyes pop.
6. Take your black eyeliner (pencil, gel, liquid, it’s up to you!) and line the upper eyelid, don’t worry about getting it too perfect because you’ll be adding lashes on top of it.
7. Now it’s time for the falsies! Apply these to your eye, and wait for them to dry completely before moving on.
8. Once the eyelash glue has dried, go BACK over the strip with your black eyeliner. This will help to hide fake eyelash band, and will define your eyes even more. Also apply two to three coats of black mascara to plump them up a bit.
9. Next, line your lower lash line with the same black eyeliner and smudge softly with a q-tip, just so the line doesn’t look too harsh. Don’t forget to line your waterline too! Jennifer’s lower eyeliner is not dramatic or too smokey, so just a little definition will do.
10. Sweep a plum or berry colored blush on your cheekbones.
11. Apply a shimmery mauve lipgloss like Jennifer’s, or make the look your own by wearing your favorite lip color! Nudes, burgundy’s and berry’s would all look stunning with this silver, smokey eye!

Trend Alert: Tribal Designs!
Tribal is Taking Over!!.
It started during New York Fashion week, when Rodarte’s models dawned tribal style body paint on their arms as they walked the runway. Each model’s designs were unique and it looked great with the slicked hair and green lights. Last month in Italian Vogue, photographer David Sim’s published an amazing editorial spread focused on designer clothing and tribal art. Inspired by both looks, I actually did a photoshoot of my own centered around this tribal art. It’s actually much harder to do than it looks! The lines needed to be clean and I only had several hours to do two models. It was really fun though!
Most recently, Shakira put out a new video where she and her dancers are sportting the tribal trend! They only wear the art on one arm but this is a great example to show how much fashion influences all aspects of the media. It started on the runway, traveled to editorial and ended up in the mainstream music scene. So cool!

Best Cover Makeup: December 2009

COVER WINNER- MAKEUP and HAIR:
Natalie Portman for V Magazine!!!
Natalie Portman’s V Magazine Cover is by far my favorite December 2009 cover!!! She looks somewhat androgynous and super edgy. We are so used to seeing her look pretty and natural, and I think the makeup and hair in this shot make her look incredible! I am loving the faux hawk and extended, sultry cat-eye. I almost didn’t know it was her.

American Music Award’s Makeup
Smokey Eyes and Nude Lips

Nude was definitely the color of the night last night at the 2009 American Music Awards! The red carpet was all about the eyes while lips and cheeks were kept surprisingly natural. I don’t know if I saw one red lip!! Fergie’s look was my favorite, she looked very pretty and polished.

Even Adam Lambert opted for the smokey eye/nude lips combo and don’t even try to tell me that homeboy doesn’t have lip color on!
